Lexical Semantic Analysis in Natural Language Text
Computer programs that make inferences about natural language are easily fooled by the often haphazard relationship between words and their meanings. This thesis develops Lexical Semantic Analysis (LxSA), a general-purpose framework for describing word groupings and meanings in context. LxSA marries comprehensive linguistic annotation of corpora with engineering of statistical natural language ...
متن کاملStochastic Analysis of Lexical and Semantic Enhanced Structural Language Model
In this paper, we present a directed Markov random field model that integrates trigram models, structural language models (SLM) and probabilistic latent semantic analysis (PLSA) for the purpose of statistical language modeling. The SLM is essentially a generalization of shift-reduce probabilistic push-down automata thus more complex and powerful than probabilistic context free grammars (PCFGs)....
متن کاملLexical-Semantic Interpretation Of Language Input In Mathematical Dialogs
Discourse in formal domains, such as mathematics, is characterized by a mixture of telegraphic natural language and embedded (semi-)formal symbolic mathematical expressions. Due to the lack of empirical data, little is known about the suitability of input analysis methods for mathematical discourse in a dialog setting. We present an input understanding method for a tutoring system teaching math...
متن کاملFirst Language Activation during Second Language Lexical Processing in a Sentential Context
Lexicalization-patterns, the way words are mapped onto concepts, differ from one language to another. This study investigated the influence of first language (L1) lexicalization patterns on the processing of second language (L2) words in sentential contexts by both less proficient and more proficient Persian learners of English. The focus was on cases where two different senses of a polys...
متن کاملBuilding lexical semantic representations for Natural Language instructions
We report on our work to automatically build a corpus of instructional text annotated with lexical semantics information. We have coupled the parser LCFLEX with a lexicon and ontology derived from two lexical resources, VerbNet for verbs and CoreLex for nouns. We discuss how we built our lexicon and ontology, and the parsing results we obtained.
